Frequently asked questions
What do volcano alert levels mean?
USGS uses Normal, Advisory, Watch and Warning for ground hazards, and Green, Yellow, Orange and Red aviation color codes for ash hazards to aircraft.
How many volcanoes are erupting right now?
Usually around 40 to 50 volcanoes are in continuing eruption worldwide at any time. The live map lists those with current reports.
