Frequently asked questions
Is there a wildfire near me?
Open the live map and turn on your location. Zero Containment lists fires and red flag warnings near you, with the distance and the local emergency number.
What does containment mean?
Containment is the share of a fire’s edge that firefighters have secured with a control line. A fire can be 0% contained and still be small, or 80% contained and still burning inside.
What is a red flag warning?
A National Weather Service warning that warm temperatures, very low humidity and strong winds will combine to make fire spread rapidly.
Can I see wildfire smoke?
Yes. Air-quality events and the smoke and air-quality layer show where smoke is affecting the air you breathe.
Stay safe
Read the wildfire safety guide, and keep the emergency number for where you are.
