Nuclear and radiological emergency safety: what to do

In a radiation emergency, getting inside a solid building quickly gives the most protection.

If you are in danger right now, call your local emergency number. Find the number for your country.

What to do

  1. Get inside, stay inside, stay tuned. Go to the middle or basement of a brick or concrete building.
  2. Stay inside for at least 24 hours unless officials tell you otherwise.
  3. Remove outer clothing and wash if you were outside.
